How to Setup the Grandstream with an Ambit Cable Modem

Ambit modems can sometimes be referred to as the no-name modem, as finding the name of the manufacturer on the modem can be near impossible on some models. The best way to determine it is an Ambit is to read the lights left to right. The important light that indicates connectivity to the ISP is the sync light, which should remain on (not flashing) if the modem is to provide an internet connection.

To setup the service with this device:

CustomerProvidedRoutersIcon.jpg Power off the modem, the Grandstream and the router (if one is in use).

CustomerProvidedRoutersIcon.jpg Connect an Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port on the modem to the WAN port of the Grandstream.

CustomerProvidedRoutersIcon.jpg Connect an Ethernet cable from the LAN port of the Grandstream to the device what was previously connected to the modem. This may be your computer or a router.

CustomerProvidedRoutersIcon.jpg Once you have the cables connected in this manner, power on the Ambit modem first. Once the sync light is a stable light, power on the Grandstream. After 3-5 minutes the Grandstream should be registered and able to make and receive calls.

Important note: Ambit modems seem to have an issue with releasing the MAC address registration from a previous device. This will prevent a new device from acquiring an IP address when connected to the modem. This occurs even though a complete, correct power cycle has been done.

CustomerProvidedRoutersIcon.jpg If this issue occurs, try waiting a longer period of time than usual with the modem powered off, perhaps 8-10 minutes.

CustomerProvidedRoutersIcon.jpg If this issue continues, disconnect the cable line from the modem while the modem is powered off. After a few minutes, reconnect the cable and power on the network.

CustomerProvidedRoutersIcon.jpg If this does not resolve the issue, please refer to How to Clone a MAC address on a Grandstream for more information. This will use the MAC address clone setting in the Grandstream and you will place the MAC address of the device that had last gained internet access. This last device could be either your computer or your router.
